Bio

I'm Ryan, a photographer with over 10 years of photography experience at a collegiate/professional level and a professional certification from the De Anza College photography program. I am the author and photographer of a cookbook, "Vegetarian Ideas," which is now in its second printing and is available for purchase via my webstore, and a photobook, "Sold out of Pie," featuring photography from alongside California Highway 1. I previously have taught piano and saxophone professionally, with an emphasis on jazz and rock music, and am an honors graduate of the UC San Diego music composition program.

Artist Statement

I am a multiracial fine art photographer living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have at times taught math, English, and piano; each of these disciplines influences my photography in its own way.

I work mostly with film cameras, occasionally with digital cameras. My film work is medium or large format; I make black and white silver gelatin prints by hand in the darkroom. I also do platinotyping, a process by which platinum metal is embedded in paper fibers to create an image. My work explores the diversity of the community, both the land and its inhabitants, that has been my home for over 30 years.
